In this classic tale, our characters learn the importance of being truthful, and in making promises that you can keep!

Lena, the daughter of a hardworking miller, is put to the test when the king’s messenger overhears her father bragging that his daughter can spin straw into gold.  The king summons Lena to the castle and supplies her with a spinning wheel and straw.  As she weeps in despair, a little man appears and agrees to complete the task for her.  Lena gratefully agrees, fearing for her father’s safety.  The king is so delighted, that he orders Lena to spin more straw into gold.  Desperate, Lena again accepts the little man’s assistance.  Only this time, he extracts an awful promise form her as payment.  He foretells of her happy marriage and the beautiful child she will have.  He then forces her to agree to give him the baby in return for his work.

Will Lena be forced to keep this horrible promise?
